Kopke Colheita Aged Tawny Port 1981

Kopke Colheita Aged Tawny Port 1981

"A warm, inviting style, with brown bread, toasted almond, powdered ginger and green tea notes leading the way. The green tea edge lingers longest through the focused, slightly taut finish. Starts slow, but adds zip and length with air." 93 points Wine Spectator

"This is quite special. Wonderfully spicy and raisiny with some fresher citrus and mineral characters, as well as cedary notes. Direct, thrilling and intense." 96 pts Jaime Goode Wineanorak.

"This is lovely, dark, burnished and unctuous. From a rather poor vintage year, this still shows well, demonstrating yet again that you can't necessarily assume vintage years control the quality of Colheitas... the flavor and texture are very fine, laced with dried caramel and just a touch of brandy. There is that bit of alcohol in the background. The finish is long, though, and filled with flavor. It is bright and lifted." 92 points Wine Advocate

The 1981 is showing better and better everytime we get a chance to taste it. This is very pretty and with some air becomes incredibly silky and plush.

Kopke dates back to 1638 and is the oldest Port house in the Douro.
