This wine welcomes the nose with raspberry, chocolate and roses. The palate matches the nose, turning into warm forest fruit compote supported by a rich vanilla foundation. The finish is long and rich. With all it has going on, the Evidencia Reserve manages not to be cloyingly rich or "thick". It's a great representation of the diversity that is Dao and and incredible value for what it has to offer. This wine drinks well now and should age gracefully.
Winemaker Carlos Eduardo chose to ferment this 100% Touriga Nacional in stainless steel, and aged it in French oak for 6 months.
This red wine from Portugal's Dao region showcases its region beautifully. The Dao is surrounded by several mountain ranges, including the Serra da Estrela (the highest in the country.) These mountains protect the area from maritime influence, creating a temperate Mediterranean-continental climate. 75% of the area is between 400 and 700 meters, which together with the granitic soils, gives this wine excellent acid, which translates to a sense of freshness in Dao wines despite their fruitful ripeness. The two main rivers in the region are Dão and Mondego which, together with the relief of their valleys, create diverse microclimates.
