J. Portugal Ramos 2020 Vinha de São Lázaro, Alentejo Tinto

J. Portugal Ramos 2020 Vinha de São Lázaro, Alentejo Tinto - The Spanish Table

J. Portugal Ramos 2020 Vinha de São Lázaro, Alentejo Tinto

A single vineyard wine that owes its name to a small 13th century chapel within the vineyard, dedicated to Saint Lazarus, the protector of the sick and needy.

At 1230ft elevation with clay and limestone soils, this wine is destemmed and foot trodden in traditional 'lagares' followed by stainless steel fermentation. The wine then sees 12 months of aging in new French oak barrique.

Fresh, fully ripe dark fruits with a vegetal touch and truffles. Rich, svelte, blousy character with smooth tannins and a long toasty finish.

Every now and then, we run into a bottle that really showcases what we call the 'essence of wine'. We usually reserve this term for a wine that speaks to a place intimately, and has a sense of balance between the varietal character and textural structure. This is one such wine. Only 6000 bottles were produced this vintage. -JS
