Very Limited Production as the Eguren family strove to produce a world class wine from the miniscule Finca La Nieta, a vineyard with shallower, poorer soils, and a superior microclimate. The product is Viñedos de Páganos’ flagship wine, La Nieta, a superior Tempranillo whose subtlety and elegance expresses a mineral-ish red, with subtle notes of fresh loamy earth, smoke and iron interwoven with flavors of mulled cherry, tea rose, dried fig and balsamic herbs and spices. What is revealed is a rich, expressive tapestry of flavors wrapped around firm, fine-grained tannins and orange peel acidity. Long, fragrant finish. Awarded 94 points from The Wine Spectator
100% Tempranillo coming from the vineyard Finca La Nieta planted in 1975. Aged 18 months in new Bordelaise French Oak barrels. Racked every four months.
Finca La Nieta is located at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria, this area is characterized by an Atlantic climate that is moderated by the Sierra. De-stemmed by hand, berry by berry, with a rigorous selection of every grape. Cold maceration pre-fermentation. Fermentation in 1000L open top oak vats with selected indigenous yeast. Total maceration is 21 days. Malolactic fermentation in new Bordelaise French Oak barrels.
