Capers are actually the unopened flower buds of the caper plant. But if, instead of picking the buds you leave them on the plant, let them bloom, and then set fruit, you end up with caper berries. The oblong green caper berry is much milder than caper buds, with a somewhat lemony-olive flavor, with a pleasing crunch. Enjoy them as you would pickles or olives. They make a fun addition to skewered tapas, salads, even a martini.
