Jimbro 2021 Puesta en Cruz Blanco, Castilla y León - The Spanish Table

Jimbro 2021 Puesta en Cruz Blanco, Castilla y León

Puesta en Cruz is one of Spain’s rarest white wines, made entirely from the autochthonous grape of the same name. Closely related to Portugal’s Rabigato, it delivers piercing acidity and a crystalline mineral backbone when grown on these granite terraces. Jimbro gives it a thoughtful élevage in French oak with lees aging, which layers in texture without masking the grape’s natural intensity. Aromas of citrus, white flowers, and a salty edge carry through to a long, elegant finish that promises years of graceful evolution.

Bodegas Jimbro was born in 2010 out of a group of friends who wanted to honor this landscape by preserving its ancient vineyards and reviving the nearly lost heritage of Arribes. From the start, the project has been rooted in organic viticulture and minimal intervention, with an emphasis on sustainability that even extends to ecological beekeeping. Their winery is small in scale but ambitious in vision, seeking not to replicate more famous Spanish styles but to capture the essence of these rugged terraces and the rare grapes that grow on them. Production is painstakingly artisanal, often measured in just a few thousand bottles, each one carrying the weight of history and the passion of the people behind it.
