Bodegas Mauro is located in the village of Tudela del Duero, just outside the official lines of the Ribera del Duero DO. Founded by Mariano Garcia (who was the head winemaker at Vega Sicilia for over 30 years) he has been gradually handing the reins over to his two sons, Eduardo and Alberto.
Terreus comes from a single vineyard of very old vine Tinto de Toro (Tempranillo)The entry level wine, simply called Mauro is predominately Tempranillo with just a touch of Syrah. Full bodied with dense fruit, this has good lift and freshness to balance the fullness. A very classy and complex wine.
"The 2004 Terreus, a wine made only in top vintages (2004 certainly qualifies), is taken from a single vineyard of old vine Tempranillo. It has a complex nose of toasty oak, mineral, violets, incense, blackberry, and black cherry that leaps from the glass. Thick, rich, and opulent, this powerful yet suave offering will benefit from 4-6 years of additional bottle age and drink well through 2034. This is an impressive set of wines. "This inky dark red is packed with ripe blackberry and boysenberry fruit, framed by toast and chocolate oak flavors, and supported by muscular tannins. Yet this remains balanced, lively and even graceful. Drink now through 2014. 750 cases made." 93 points Wine Spectator
