La Rioja Alta is another one Rioja's old, venerable wineries and their 890 Gran Reserva is widely regarded as one of Spain's top wine ever year that it is released. Which is only in the top vintages. So typically you only see this 3 or 4 times a decade.
The 1985 is aged, complex, and subtle...it offers complex, savory flavors of spice, faded flowers, and red fruits. There is suppleness yet vivacity to this medium-weight wine that is all finesse and restraint. It is a brilliant example of this style of Rioja.
