Tradicion 1975 Palo Cortado Single Vintage Sherry Magnum 1.5L
Tradicion 1975 Palo Cortado Single Vintage Sherry Magnum 1.5L
A Benjamin Button kind of winery! Bodegas Tradicion, despite its name, is one of the youngest wineries in Jerez, created in 1998. They purchased wines (botas and soleras) from Osborne, Bobadilla, Croft, Domecq and Sandeman and now they own around 1,000. They kind of started the other way round, selling only VORS (and one VOS), and working their way towards younger wines to feed their soleras. The wines are in charge of Jose Maria Quiros, who was winemaker at Agustin Blazquez and later at Domecq and has been a consultant for Alvear in Montilla-Moriles for 15 years.
His aim is to preserve traditions and keep the wines as pure and true to their style as possible, and they come through as clean, elegant, precise, well-defined, focused, true to their type and indeed traditional. All wines have a hand-written lot number and year on the label.
Single vintage sherry is incredibly rare and only 50 magnums of this 1975 Palo Cortado were released. "Bodegas Tradicion already released a handful of superb bottles of 1975 Oloroso a few years ago, and now it is the Palo Cortado's turn. These wines are usually blended in a solera system and bottled as non-vintage wines, meaning this 1975 Palo Cortado is a rare single-vintage Palo Cortado. The nose shows a slightly volatile character with some varnish, hazelnut, iron rust and orange marmalade that is followed by a really tasty palate that is quite sharp, denoting an old age and ending with a mineral, chalky, salty sensation. It's a very concentrated, old Palo Cortado. Only 250 bottles and 50 magnums have been filled." 95 points Wine Advocate
